Here are tips on How To Train A Dog Not to Bark:

A dog bark is a natural form of communication. They bark to express themselves, when they are feeling anxious or lonely or to guard their household. That is the main reason why your dog will bark repeatedly especially at night and at the time you are away from home. But sometimes, dog barking can be quite a nuisance especially to your neighbors, visitors and also to you and your family. Excessive barking from dogs could be due to emotional and behavioral problems too.

Use voice commands:

When your dog barks repeatedly without no reason, you need to be firm and say ”No”. You need to speak loud, short and clear. When speaking to your dog, make sure that you maintain eye contact and while commanding, point the dog using your hand. When you point the dog with your hand, your dog will understand that you are speaking to it and it will realize that it is doing something wrong.

Use reinforcements:

Use a clicker and a treat when your dog understands and stops barking. Ensure that you have it with you all the time. After you use voice command, and your dog does not respond positively, use your clicker to click twice and after that, give your dog a treat. Also give your dog some affection when you realize that it has listen to your commands. Talk nicely to your dog.

Use punishments:

Incase your dog does not stop barking even after the use of voice command; simply take it to an isolated place. Basement can be the perfect place; the dog will feel lonely because it will not find any fun. If it still continues to bark, chain the dog and lock it in the basement. Be quiet; don’t say anything when you are doing this to your dog.

Be consistent:

Ensure that you are consistent in the reinforcements and punishments that you administer to your dog no matter what. Never back up on your stand. You must always show your dog that you are the master and it must respect what you are commanding it to do. When you are consistent, your dog will realize that you are serious and within no time, it will start following your commands because it will be aware of the consequence that normally comes if it fails to corporate with you.

Be patient:

You should be patient with your dog if it does not respond to your commands immediately. Before taking any disciplinary action, take a keen look at it because your dog may be barking repeatedly because it has seen something that it feels it is not right or it might be trying to express its discomfort. Maybe, the reason why it is barking the whole night might be because it is not comfortable where it normally sleeps or you might not be giving it enough food. Ensure that you understand why your dog is baking repeatedly before taking any action. Maybe if you give it what it wants it will stop that habit of baking all the time.

Train your dog:

Start training your dog at an early age. You should train your dog when to bark. I.e. it should back when a stranger sneaks into your home as opposed to barking when a pedestrian passes by the road. Train it to bark only when it is necessary. If you try the above tips you will learn How To Train A Dog Not To Bark.
